Muddy Red Water
all poets must muddy their waters
said ayn rand during the flood

Flood water mud red
Where
yesterday lay concrete
Today
there is no street
Just
a flowing river bed
Flood
waters
All
mud red

The
birds don't sing
After

all the rain
More
must be coming
The
silence nervously explains

Flood
waters
All
mud red
Streams
turn to rivers
Where
yesterday lay concrete
Today
there is no street
It
is all a flowing river bed
Flood
water
All
mud red

Every
news station
has
a different shot
All
the same scene
The
water rising up
The
towns disappear in'

Flood
water All mud red
Steams
turn to rivers
People
screaming Armageddon
Sleeping
in the shelters
Instead
of in their beds
One
woman says over and over that
Mother
Nature is alive
Father
G-d is dead

I
look away from the tv
and
begin
to
read
Ayn
Rand
It
takes my mind off the fact
That
I too may be stranded

She
talks about how Nietzsche
Says

That
all poets must
muddy
their waters
to
make them
appear

deep

I
look back to the tv set
The
water is 14 feet above the street
Dreaming of the mud all alive I
fall deeply asleep

flood water mud red see streams turn into to rivers where yesterday lay concrete now
there is no street flood water all mud red the houses are underwater and the
fishes in the children's beds flood waters all mud red there is no flood insurance and
no way to move back in flood water all mud red the shelters are all full in
the ghetto neighborhoods flood water all mud red carry away the dead
then forget it ever happened once the streets are clean and gray and the sun is bright
and the day so hot that you wish it would rain just a little bit ….
